Options for Controlling 3 STBs

I want to control 3 STBs with UIRT(s). The problem is, I would like all 3 STBs to be controlled via external IR emitters, not the IR emitter built into the UIRT. I am trying to control Motorola DCX3200 STBs, which AFAIK, do not allow you to modify the IR codes. The two obvious options to me are:

1) Purchase a second USB-UIRT, and use ports 1 & 2 from the first UIRT, and port 1 from the second UIRT

B) Modify the USB-UIRT hardware to output port 3 to a new mini-jack installed on the back of the case, instead of (or in addition to) the built-in IR emitter.

Suggestions?
