High power emitter?

Postby Easley » Wed Apr 30, 2003 4:06 am

I noticed this question was asked in another thread, but never answered. Will the "Blast IR Emitter" at http://www.smarthome.com/8174.html work with the USB-UIRT? I need to get the signal all over an ajoining room.

It says

The best range will be obtained when connected to an output which does not use 'current limiting resistors' like these products:

SmartLinc HouseLinc Home Automation interface
X10 to IR Controller
Computer-Controllable Learning IR Remote

When used with Ir connecting blocks, which do use current limiting resistors, the range will be significantly less.

Yes, 99% sure this should work. Emitters rarely publish the plug polarity, but I've yet to see one reverse polarity.

From the website, it reads:

"The best range will be obtained when connected to an output which does not use 'current limiting resistors' like these products:"

The USB-UIRT *does* have a current-limiting resistor internal, so if you need a *lot* of range (not cable distance, but distance from the blaster LED to the equipment), you'd need to change the resistor inside the USB-UIRT.
