Parts for building your own add-on blast emitter

Postby heartsurgeon » Sat Jun 18, 2005 9:05 pm

here are the parts i used to build an add on blast emitter that you can plug into the back port of the usb-uirt..for about $8.00, you can build two blasters (some parts come in pairs).

- 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug, CAT #274-284, web page:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... =274%2D284

- Infrared LED, CAT #276-143, web page:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... =276%2D143

2 emitters, a double pack of stereo plugs....$8.00

connected the ring and tip of the stereo plug together and to the LED anode, connect the barrel of the stereo plug to cathode..i used some left over wire from the inside of an old computer! (free). a little bit of shrink tubing to hold the wires to the led (didn't feel like soldering)..works great..

voila! works great!! easily blasts to 6 feet (didn't really test it to a greater distance, may work well beyond that)

well, i searched under "blast" and noticed an older post where you answer more than once.

i will try your suggestion of using Radio Shack parts:

- 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug, CAT #274-284, web page:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... =274%2D284

- Infrared LED, CAT #276-143, web page:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... =276%2D143

and building my own

thanks again for a great device and a great support forum.

i needed a blaster pointing behind and to the side of the main emitter, and this works great...the whole theater room is now nicely covered (as well as the equipment rack).

i had some plain old wire left over from a connector to a sound board...just some crappy old wire...use anything, it really doesn't matter.
