Sending specific RC5/RC6 code: possible ?

I would like to send specific RC5/RC6 codes and I have been told about the USB-UIRT. Actually, I would like to send RC5/RC6 commands that I would define through their hexadecimal codes (this is to say, I define an RC6 code, say 0x04 0x00, send it and see how my devices react).
I've read many posts but couldn't get the point about that. Actually, I will buy the USB-UIRT if it does, but wouldn't like to buy it just to see it doesn't work ...
Can someone tell me if it works and how to do it ?
