Any issues with other USB devices?

I currently use a very simple IR receiver and winlirc plus girder. I now have problems after I've installed a skype adapter
Most likely the adapter and winlirc uses the hardware timer heavily and winlirc is loosing.
Before I spend my cash on USB UIRT, wich seems to be a far more suitable IR receiver than mine, I would like to assess the risk of _not_ solving the problem I have.
Does anyone know of problems like this with the skype adapter, or other devices, conflicting with USB UIRT?
