USB Extender (Cat 5)

Postby salsbst » Sun Jul 25, 2004 8:47 pm

Anyone have experience with these?

"USB Extender Connects One USB Computer To 4 USB Peripherals
Extend USB Devices Up To 100 Feet from Computer via Cat5 UTP Wire"

http://www.vpi.us/usbc5.html

It's documented as USB 1/1.1 compatible.

I am contemplating using it to get the USB-UIRT into the "right" room (from the noisy room where computers go). At $180, it's a bit expensive!

Anyone have any better ideas? I need to go approximately 25 to 30 feet from the computer.

You could use something like This an IR Extender. IR to RF back to IR

I have a set made by RCA that work really well.

There are some lower-cost active USB extender cables you could try. I haven't tried them so I don't know how well they'll work. Here's a low-cost one:
