Status of USB-UIRT with LIRC

What is the status of USB-UIRT support in version 0.7.1 or LIRC? The UIRT2 (receive only) driver seems to at least recognize the device, but not the transmit and recieve version of the USB2 driver. Even with receive only version I am having trouble. I get "timeout reading byte 4" repeatedly when i run irrecord.

I haven't heard much about lirc support since the 0.7.0pre7 patches. I can't find lirc-0.7.0pre7 for download to use the patches which seem to support transmit and receive. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Can't help with official support (wish I could - I want it myself), but you can still find lirc 0.7.0 pre7 if you let Google help you.
