Installed new firmware & drivers but still no go with TV

Postby Micah » Mon May 05, 2003 10:53 pm

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

I'm trying to control a Hitachi 51UWX15B but for some reason I can't.

Girder seems to learn the IR ok, but when I run the test nothing happens. Also, the code/freq that the UIRT picks up and the code/freq that I got from a Pronto ccf file are different.

No problem controlling my DVD or cable box, just the TV.

Any ideas?

Micah,

Can you try Learning the code for a button (please CHECK 'Force RAW...' when before pressing and HOLDING the button on the remote).

Then, can you paste the code you get as well as the code from your CCF?

Thanks,

Jon

Hey Jon,

Here's the codes, thanks for the help.

The learned codes:
Code 1: R030B815C80B01414141414141414144214141442141414421442144214421414144214141442144214421442141414421414141414141414141414141442141414421442144214

Code 2:
075B815C5614

The Pronto CCF codes:
Code 1: R0000815A80AF16151615161516151641161516411615164116411641164116151641161516411641164116411615164116151615161516151615161516411615164116411641168604

Code 2:
0000815A56168E87

The remote is being learned @ 39khz but when importing the pronto code it comes up @ 37khz.

What's strange is that when doing a learn I've also gotten 38.5khz with the same code, but a difference of .5 khz isn't all the great and probably doesn't matter much. Also, before the upgrade the CCF was being imported @ 39khz which I believe to be the correct frequency. Unfortunatly the CCF code doesn't work at that freq. either.

So does this info help at all, or did I just dump a big bowl of "whaaaa?" in your lap?

Thanks a lot,

Micah

Micah,

Can you paste me the original pronto code (that you imported) for this button?

Also, just to verify: you're saying that when you imported this Pronto code on the previous plugin version that it cam in at 39KHz and now it doesn't?

Thanks,

Hey Jon,

About the freq, that's exactly what I'm saying. Don't know why the change, but for some reason the pronto code is now coming up as 37khz.

IR code from CCF:
0000 006b 0022 0002 015a 00af 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0015 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0041 0016 0604 015a 0056 0016 0e87

Thanks for getting back to me.

Blast if I don't fix one thing only to break another!

Wouldn't you know it -- the Pronto Import is *not* bringing in the right frequency (just a bogus one) on the 2.5.6 version. For now you can simply change it back to 39KHz but you're finding that even that doesn't work, right?

Perhaps I need to make a trip with a scope to see what's so picky about this TV of yours :)

Ahh, good to know I wasn't going crazy with the frequency stuff :)

Jon, I found the problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

It would seem there's a problem between the UIRT and the IR distribution box. I had a wild idea to try pointing the UIRT at the TV and hitting Test and p0w, TV turned right off. Try it through the IR box and no go, TV just sits there all fat, dumb and happy.

What I don't understand is that my DVD player and my Cable box have no trouble going through the box.

Any ideas Jon?

Nothing comes to mind....

Do you have the dristribution emitters in the same room as the USB-UIRT? I'm wondering if there's visible IR overlap your TV doesn't like...

yeah, they're in the same room, but the UIRT isn't facing any walls that it could bounce off of.

I'll try covering the face of the uirt and do a test. Maybe that'll do it.

well I did try covering the UIRT but that didn't do anything.

What I did find though is that the problem isn't what the UIRT is passing to the IR block. I plugged the emitter directly into the UIRT (should've done that before, drrr) and it the tv responds no problem.

What I also found is that what I originally thought was the IR reciever isn't. The reciever is behind the screen...which really leaves me scratching my head because there's no way I'm going to be sticking one of these little emitters to the screen.

I'm guessing (and maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong) that the signal is getting lost trying to get through the screen. It looks like I could take the screen off, but ummm, that's a scary idea. :)

Whelp, I got off the phone with Hitachi and the IR reciever for the TV is indeed behind the screen. I'm gonna need to pickup an IR blaster and hook that up to the dist box and I should be good to go. Now to find one that suits my needs...hrmmm

My RPTV also has the detector behind the screen, mounted facing UP near the projection tubes. That way incoming IR bounces off the rear mirror down onto the detector.

For mine, since I take the front screen off anyway on occasion to dust the inside chassis, I routed an ir emitter inside through a crevice and taped it next to the detector.

well Jon, you've made me brave. Time to bust out the screw driver and take off the screen. Wish me luck :)

Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I found the IR reciever behind the screen and now can control everything with the UIRT through a powered IR dist box.

Thanks for the help Jon, you do a hell of a job building and supporting your product.
