usb-uirt unable to control Sage TV via Dish Network box

Postby Hank Jackson » Mon Dec 20, 2004 5:29 pm

My usb-uirt worked perfectly well, for a year or more, with both Sage TV and Beyond TV (Snapstream) when working with my Charter Digital Cable box. Then I moved to northern Maine, and a Dish Network #311 satellite box, controlled by an Echostar 3.1 IR remote, and the trouble started. Snapstream "learned" the new usb-uirt/Dish 311 box codes in a breeze, but SAGE TV has, after a month and a half of trying, proven unable to learn how to work with the usb-uirt and satellite box. Can anyone give me some pointers or insight on how to get sage 2.1 to work with the Dish Network 311 box and Echostar 3.1 IR remote? I really want to use Sage's newly added support for my Plextor PX-M402U, so I can record directly to divx or mp4.

Hank,

The default 'repeat' value in Sage 2 may be too low for controlling your Dish receiver (results in IR bursts that are too 'short' for your receiver to see). You can either mess with the Sage TV 'properties' file or add a line into your .IR file you created with Sage when you learned your Dish remote, as follows:

1. Find the .IR file you're using (usually in the Sage program folder in a 'Remote Codes' subfolder).
2. Edit the file with a text editor, and you'll see something like this:

Dish6000USBUIRT 56000 411 3 600 1000
1 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 0163
2 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 0163
...
...
...

Add a line just after the first line with reads:

RepeatCount 5

So now the file looks like this:

Dish6000USBUIRT 56000 411 3 600 1000
RepeatCount 5
1 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 0163
2 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 0163
...
...
...

The restart Sage and give it a try.
