help with multi program driver access

Postby oneman » Sat Mar 13, 2004 11:54 pm

I'm trying to get girder and xlobby to both access the driver at the same time. Is this possible or do I have to make a choice between the two.
Thanks

This should be possible. To do this will require that you download and use the 'sharing' Girder plugin -- www.usbuirt.com/latestGirderPlugin.zip

Can you give me a link to the XLobby plugin and let me know how its working for you?

Thanks,

Jon

still no joy

No luck Jon,

If Xlobby is running when I start Girder 3.2 I get the following:

"Error: Unable to connect to the USB-UIRT device! Please ensure that the device is connected to the computer!"

If Girder (3.2) is running when I start Xlobby I get this error:

"unable to initialize USB-UIRT (unknown error)!"

I have Firmware 5.6 (10/6/2003), API driver 2.6.50, and girder plugin 2.6.3 (10/02/03).

The USB-UIRT Xlobby plugin is built into Xlobby2alpha40exp7 , when you run the program, hit F2 for setup, the IR plugin tab in at the end.

Thanks,

Bryan

Bryan,

I have emailed you a test app which will help us determine if sharing is set up correctly on your PC.

Jon,

The program works when girder is open and the plugin is active. It does not work when Xlobby is open and the xlobby USB-UIRT plugin is active.

So girder will share, Xlobby won't.

I will also post this at the Xlobby forum so Steven can maybe help out.

Thanks,
Bryan

I am having the same exact problem with GBPVR. I am using the latest USBUIRT drivers, the latest Girder plugin from the USBUIRT site, and still GBPVR locks up when it tries to use the USBUIRT with Girder open. The GBPVR software is available at www.gbpvr.com.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SageTV shares well with girder, but if Xlobby is open with the plugin active then SageTV loses it's USB-UIRT functionality.

OK Thanks, this is news to me. I will have to get in touch with the GBPVR and Xlobby developers and see why this is the case.

OK all, I found the problem in GBPVR (just downloaded and installed it) and I suspect the same issue exists with XLobby:

Shut down GBPVR, then go to the GBPVR folder on your PC and *rename* the 'uuirtdrv.dll' to 'uuirtdrv.sav'. Then restart GBPVR andsee if things work.

The problem is that GBPVR (and I suspect XLobby too) is using its own local copy of the USB-UIRT API Driver. This should *not* happen. Even if the driver is the same version as the one in the Windows\System32 folder, the way Windows works it will treat these as two separate drivers, which will completely break sharing.

I will contact the developer and ask him to *not* include the API driver as part of the install.

Well, I renamed the driver in the GBPVR folder to .sav and tried it out. Good news is Girder fired up. Bad news is that GBPVR now does not change channels. Looks like GBPVR is using the .dll in it's folder explicity, and not looking in the System32 folder. Guess they will need to fix that.

Thanks for the great support,

that fixes xlobby

Jon,

Getting rid of xlobby2alpha40exp7-0\ir\plugins\uuirtdrv.dll did the trick.

I'll post this over at the Xlobby forum.

Thanks
