I'va been using Girder for over a year with my AST remote without any problem. Unfortunately, I'm having lots of difficulty having Girder learning codes through the USB-UIRT...
When in learning mode (EventString -> Lear Event), USB-UIRT will only accept a few codes from my remotes (the ones it accepts make its red light flashing). All others are ignored, and its light only flashes on and off once, very shortly...
What can I do to have the USB-UIRT learning codes properly?
Only a few buttons can be learned...

When in normal use (i.e., not learning), does pressing buttons on your remotes cause the USB-UIRT led to flash? Also, does the Girder 'LED' blink and a code appear at the bottom of the Girder screen?

Hello,
When in normal use, pressing buttons on the remote causes USB-UIRT led to flash, very shortly. The Girder LED doesn't blink and no code appears at the bottom of the screen...
This only happens with some remotes (like the AST remote that I used to use on my serial port).
When USB-UIRT only flashes on and off very shortly, does it means that this button (code) can't be learned by USB-UIRT?

P.S.: I'm planning to use USB-UIRT with SnapStream; do I need to "program" Girder to control my Digital Cable Box or should I only "progam" SnapStream during the installation procedure?

If possible, I would appreciate an 'IR Debug' of one of your AST remote buttons. To do this:
1. Create a new command in Girder.
2. Hightlight the command, choose the Plugins tab, and highlight 'USB-UIRT Driver' and press the settings button.
3. In the USB-UIRT dialog, press the 'IR Debug' button.
4. Place the AST remote about 2-4" away from the USB-UIRT, aiming the remote just to the left of the USB-UIRT's RED LED.
5. Press and HOLD a button on your AST remote. You should see the progress bar go up and the RED LED flash.
6. Hold the remote's button until the progress bar hits 100%. If the bar stops moving and the LED stops flashing, you may need to release and press the remote button several times (some remotes don't send continuously).
When done, you will get a screen full of numeric data. Simply copy and paste that into a post.
This Debug will help me determine why your AST remote is not generating USB-UIRT codes. Does this problem occur with other remotes (for your TV, etc.)?
As far as Snapstream, you can program the latest Snapstream to work directly with the USB-UIRT. However, Snapstream's support only utilizes the USB-UIRT's TRANSMIT capability. If you want to use the receive capability, you'll still need to use Girder.

Hmmm... this AST remote protocol is indeed strange, and it looks like I will need to make a code revision to support it. Can you give me the model number of the remote or receiver (or kit)?
What other remotes are giving you similar problems? Are they set up to emulate the AST or are they set up to control their own respective devices?
One last request: can you please 'Learn' the TRANSMIT IR CODE for one of your AST buttons?
To do this, follow the procedure you did for IR Debug *except* press the 'Learn' button directly above the 'IR Debug' button instead. When the LEARN dialog pops up, make sure the 'Learn as RAW' checkbox is checked before pressing and holding the remote button. When finished, please copy and post the codes that appear in the 'Code1' and 'Code2' boxes on the USB-UIRT dialog.

As far as the AST remote -- is this the remote you ultimately want to use to control your PC? (I'm trying to determine how pressing of an issue this is for you).

Yep, I was afraid of that! This makes me 90% sure that the AST remote essentially uses the Logitech/Lite-on keyboard transmitter chip, which means it would use a similar protocol to the airboard keyboards. I'll take a look at one of those keyboards to verify...

No, not necessarily. It basically means that it is using a subset of a more 'advanced' protocol (needed for keyboards to handle keypress combinations, etc.). The USB-UIRT firmware will need to have special decode routines (likely) for this protocol. I need to do some more research on this...

I'm now using other remotes and USB-UIRT has no problem learning those codes... but now I have another problem (this time with Girder)!
When the action to be executed by Girder is a combination of keys (like "Control + s" or "ALT + right arrow"), the command isn't executed. The USB-UIRT receives the signal and so does Girder (they both flash), but nothing happens. I've tried with and without the "Alternative proc." option checked, but it doesn't change anything. It used to work fine with my old AST remote, with the same version of Girder...
Do you have any suggestion?
