USB-UIRT installation on Windows XP

Postby rpkale » Wed Oct 15, 2003 10:58 pm

Hello,

Thanks for sending me the USB-UIRT so promptly.
I am having trouble installing and using the software.
Before posting to the regular forum (where I did not
find answer to my problems) I thought I would send a direct mail first.
I will also cross-post this to the forum.

1) I was unable to properly install the driver. I followed the instructions
(3rd column) for Win XP in:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jrhees/USBUIRT/getstart.htm

Everything went fine till the last screen. After I
click "Continue Anyway", a bunch of files gets copied
but finaly it popped a window saying:

"There was a problem installing this device.
USB-UIRT.
An error occured during the installation of
the device.
The system cannot find the file specified."

The "Found new hardware" yellow baloon disappears but
a new baloon appears saying:
"A problem occured during hardware initialization.
Your device may not work properly".

I continued by dismissing the windows and installed
the girder plugin.
When I enabled the plugin and hit apply. At first it
failed with:
"Unable to connect to USB-UIRT device! Please ensure device
is connected to the computer"

But enabling and disabling the plugin checkbox and hitting apply
a couple of times the plugin got
registered. I believe the device started working since
when I tested learning a command using one of my remote
the IR code got captured. In fact it is working too
perfectly (see 2nd problem below).

So the problem right now is that though I can get the
UIRT to work, the device is not registered with the XP
USB stack properly and after a reboot I am back at the
beginning with "Found new hardware" baloon popping up
and forcing me to the re-register the driver. If I dont
go through the motions of installing the driver again I
cannot get it to work through Girder.

What is this important "missing file"? Is there a way to tell
XP that the device is fine? I am able to
learn codes, enable/disable the LEDs etc so at least
someting is correct.

Please help. I am at my wits end!!

2) When the USB-UIRT does work, it is too sensitive!?
I am using an Infrared wireless keyboard (Liteon Airboard).
As soon as I hit the "learn" button in Girder, the IR code for that
"left click" gets registered (learned) before I get a chance to use the
real remote. Anyway to get around this? (besides using
a real Keyboard/Mouse). Is there there a "delay"
setting somewhere that I could tweak?

Rahul,

I have replied in an email. To my knowledge, only one other user has seen this issue. Hopefully they will have some insight into what they found causing it on their system.
