Firefly and USB-UIRT

I have a Snapstream Firefly that I would like to control my other AV equipment. Specifically, I have IR remote controls for my DVD player, receiver, and TV. I'm having a hard time finding any information on how to get the Firefly to control the USB-UIRT unit. Questions:

1) Can I use the USB-UIRT with firefly without going through Girder? I don't really want to drop another $20 on software.
2) If I do go through girder, can I import my firefly commands that currently work with BTV, powerDVD, Nero, etc?
3) If I use girder, will I lose my ability to do "mouse mode" with the firefly?

Sorry if these questions are a little off topic. I just can't seem to find the answers in any one place--snapstream forums, USB-UIRT forums, or Girder forums!
