USB-UIRT connected to a SKY Link RF Connector

Postby Ron » Tue Feb 01, 2005 9:45 am

Hi,

I am a couple of Sky Digibox's that allow the transmission of IR signals across the RF cable, via a InfraRed receiver box, my question is as the 'Sky Link' has a InfraRed receiver, could I wire the USB-Uirt external emitter (Via a stereo to mono jack cable) straight into the receiver diode? If so which wires go to which connection?

Ron,

Probably not. Two reasons -- 1) The SKy's receiver connections may be looking for unmodulated IR instead of modulated IR., and 2) You may create grounding differential issues between your Sky box and your PC!

Jon,

Sorry another question, I have seen a device on http://www.pacelink.co.uk/rf2link.htm that has a mono 3.5" plug and then plugs directly into a Sky Digi box, this is designed for a Tivo device, do you think this may work?

Ron,

Interesting product! I do believe it would work, but you'd have to give it a try to be sure.

The USBUirt and the rf2Link works 100%. It is a lot less fuss then me trying to make a cable.

Thanks for all your help
