Suggest: Stereo IR Emitter Out OR Two Mono IR Emitter Jacks?

Postby sean421 » Sat Jan 01, 2005 7:21 am

:idea: Jon;

How hard would it be to Modify the USB-UIRT, so that it has TWO MONO 1/8" IR Emitter Jacks, Perhaps as an 'Option' to the Current "Two-Zone" 1/8" Stereo IR-Out Jack?

Most 'Off-the-Shelf' Emitters have 1/8" or Even 3/32" MONO Plugs, so this would SEEM to be 'Preferable' to MOST 'Two-Channel' Users!
- A Show of Hands, Please? -
(And Yes, I DO Know about the Rat Shack 'Splitter' Bulky, and Provides Too Much Bulk & Leverage on the Jack, IMHO)

Labels, a Couple of Little Colored Heat-Shink Sleeves, or Colored Tape, Could Easily be Added to the Mono Plugs, by the End-User to Differentiate/ID 'Zone 1' and 'Zone 2'!

1) Is there enough Space inside?
2) Any 'Wiring Complications' Internally?
3) Any 'Downside' AT ALL?

OR, The One (Existing) Stereo Jack for Zone 1 AND 2, Tip=Zone 1, Ring=Zone 2, Shaft=Ground, PLUS ADD One MONO Jack for Zone 2 Only, with Tip=Zone 2, Shaft=Ground?

Comments, Please?

Sean,

While I really like the idea, the reason I haven't done this is:

1) The 'Zone' feature was added after the initial design, and
2) Without revamping the enclosure there's not really enough room inside.
3) There's not enough 'zone' users at this point to justify a 'special' separate model.

Those are my current thoughts... :(

,

With one only jack at the back of the USB-UIRT module, you can command with success three different IR receivers with this kind of cable:

Works fine
