Linux w/ Lirc 0.8.0

I am trying to use my usb-uirt on Fedora 5 to run my MythTv box. I have seen the directions on here for the earlier versions of Lirc, but not for the latest. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge they would like to share with me it would be greatly appreciated. I have scoured the internet for information, but all the information I could find was for the earlier 0.7 versions.
