I can't get any red light activity from this unit. I plug it in and install the drivers and that goes fine, but can't get the led to light. what do I need to do?

What software are you using? Have you tried aiming any of your remotes at it to see if the LED lights up?

I am really new at this. I have installed the unit and my system recognizes it as Usb-uirt.I have read the Forum and Faq. What is my next step? How can I just test to see that it is working? I have pointed remotes at it and nothing. Do I need to set up girder first or something?

Other than a 'test' app that I can email to you (contact me at support@usbuirt.com), you will want to decide what software you will use with the USB-UIRT. Some PVR apps have built-in support for the USB-UIRT. Otherwise, for more generic support, you may want to consider Girder.
